Friday Feature: Wacky News

It may not be the wackiest news of the week, but it definitely makes Friday better when you know it’s Dr. Seuss’ birthday. Theodore Seuss Geisel published 46 of our favorite childhood books, some off which were brought onto the big screen like The Cat in the Hat, Green Eggs and Ham, and The Lorax, in theaters now.

His birthday, March 2, has been established as National Read Across American Day, and we all know we learned how to rhyme from the pro.

Twitter Feed: Ellen Degeneres-Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss! Your books are better than some juice. Something something something Bruce. I’m not great with rhymes. Caboose.

Check out a page on MSNBC to vote for your favorite Dr. Seuss movie!

Gail Collins: Favorite Journo of the Week

For those of us who consistently read the New York Times, or for anyone who has randomly read any of the opinion columns in the paper, we are familiar with Gail Collins’ witty and sarcastic articles.

5 Facts That Make Her Amazing:

1. Became the first woman editor of the Time’s editorial page in 2001.

2. Wrote a book called “When Everything Changed: The Amazing Journey of American Woman from 1960 to the Present.”

3. Founded the Connecticut State News Bureau which became the largest news service of its kind in the counrty.

4. Gets paid to poke fun at a lot of people who hold a lot of power, and can do this without getting into trouble.

5. Her writing is just awesome.

Favorite recent quote (“Mitt Speaks. Oh No!” Feb. 1, NYT):

On the morning after the Florida primary, Mitt Romney bounded out of bed, inhaled the sweet air of victory, donned his new cloak of invulnerability … and went on CNN to announce that he doesn’t care about poor people.

Friday Feature: Wacky News  → bbc.co.uk

This is our first installment of batshit cray news. We promise some viral videos and UFO sightings along the way, but lets crack open the first Friday Feature with the latest from Rupert Murdoch.

The media tycoon announced today that he will be launching the Sun on Sunday newspaper in the U.K. very “soon.” This is a spin-off of the very newspaper whose top 10 staffers were arrested last summer for alleged phone-hacking. Leave it to Mr. Murdoch to make a ballsy move while his corporation’s reputation is on the line.
